Co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders constitute one of the most pressing problems facing behavioral health professionals today. It is estimated that close to 10 million people in this country experience at least one mental health disorder in combination with substance abuse. Encountering a client with such coexisting disorders often leaves the provider in a quandary as to appropriate service plans. This training will assist the behavioral health professional in addressing the needs of clients with co-occurring diagnoses and thus increase the likelihood of improved service outcomes.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify the incidence of co-occurring mental disorders and substance abuse.
- Demonstrate increased effectiveness in identifying and implementing appropriate
treatment methods including assessment, counseling approaches and medications
used to address the needs of clients with co-occurring disorders.
- Identity community resources for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Faculty: Karen Edens (additional resource presenters may be untilized throughout the training)
This training provides 12.0 CE Hours.
